The Youth Access Clinician is a member of the headspace team. They are responsible for effectively engaging, screening, assessing and coordinating the care of young people aged 12- 25 years with diverse mental health, general health, vocational and/or drug/ alcohol services needs who are referred to or access headspace within an early intervention framework. This position is responsible for ensuring alignment and delivery of the headspace model under the headspace National Trade Mark Licence Deed. This position operates under the Health Professionals & Support Services Award 2020 on a level 2.

About The Role
Working as part of our team some key responsibilities include but is not limited to:
- Assist in engaging young people in the service, gathering relevant client information and conducting biopsychosocial assessments and screening of young people referred to or accessing headspace using the agreed headspace assessment tools, policies and procedures to identify young people and deal with general health; mental health and/or substance use problems and/or education, training or employment or other care or service needs.
- Adhere to the headspace National principles around Family Inclusive Practice in all work undertaken. Family Inclusive Practice is a way of working that values the significance of family in a young person’s life, with the definition of family being uniquely defined by each young person that headspace assists. A Family Inclusive approach facilitates support of the young person’s family as well as proactively involving a young person’s family in all aspects of the young person’s care.
- In consultation with relevant clinicians, coordinate care by assisting the client to access the services they need. This includes: consulting and liaising with internal and external service providers regarding care needs according to document care plans; working collaboratively with the client, the client’s carers and other team members to determine care or service needs and assisting with the coordination of care/service needs as required and supporting the continuity of client care and information flow between headspace clients, headspace staff and external service providers.
- With guidance from senior clinical and other staff, carry out assertive monitoring of clients including. This includes contacting the client when they miss an appointment, following-up on clients to ensure on-going care and putting services in place early if signs of mental health or drug and alcohol problems emerge as directed.
- Assist in the referral of young people to appropriate services either within headspace or other community agencies.
- Provide information to clients and carers regarding the nature of mental health and substance use problems, other information services available and how to access them.

Essential Criteria
- Relevant Tertiary Qualifications (Allied Health Discipline).
- Fully registered health professional with mental health experience: AHPRA for Registered Nurse, Occupational therapist, Clinical Psychologist or Psychologist; AASW for Social Workers.
- Experience in the provision of clinical mental health services for young people including engaging and providing care with young people ages 12 – 25 years who have mental health, alcohol and other drug problems.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake assessment/screening of clients and their carers and the ability to develop understanding/knowledge of determining care needs and assist clients to access necessary services.
- Current knowledge of the health needs of young people and the local youth, mental health and alcohol and other drug agencies and networks.
- Current and valid Working with Children Clearance.
