headspace is the National Youth Mental Health Foundation with EACH being one of the lead agencies. We began in 2006, and ever since we’ve provided early intervention mental health services to 12-25 year-olds.

Each year, we help thousands of young people, and their family and friends, access vital support through our headspace services in over 145 communities across Australia, our online and phone counselling services, our vocational services, and our presence in schools.

  • 0.6 FTE (3 days including Fridays)
  • Fixed term until 30 June 2025
  • Wantirna South location

 

Job Description

The Referral and Access Worker will work across both Knox and Lilydale headspace sites. You will play a crucial role within the headspace service and will be required to provide phone triage and organise referrals for young people accessing the headspace Knox and Lilydale services, as well as across the broader headspace teams and partnering agencies.

As the point of access to headspace for young people, you will complete comprehensive screening and assessment of young people, arrange bookings with the relevant teams/services, and coordinate supported referrals for young people and their families.

As well as above, your days will include;

  • Risk assessment and safety planning.
  • Triage young people and families who present as ‘walk-ins’.   
  • Regularly participate in Community Development activities such as school presentations and workshops, agency visits, and promotion of headspace Knox at community events such as Festivals.
  • Contributing to the planning and implementation of activities for Youth Week, Mental Health Week, and other relevant celebrations.  

Occasional after hours and weekend work may be required. 

 

Qualifications

You will bring demonstrated knowledge and experience in triage, intake and risk assessments with young people, as well as understandings around brief intervention and single session therapy.  You will have highly developed interpersonal skills and impeccable organisational and time management skills.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • A current Working With Children’s Check is essential
  • Have full Australian working rights and a National Police Clearance
  • Tertiary qualifications in the social sciences (such as youth work, counselling, psychology, social work, occupational therapy or related field) and registration with the relevant governing body preferrable, however not essential.
