Community and Peer Advisor (Tasmania) IPA Melbourne

JOB DESCRIPTION

*Mandatory: Australian Citizenship required to work within Federal Government*

Our Fed Government client is seeking a Community and Peer Advisor with lived experience of mental health issues and ADF service (ex-ADF member or partner/carer of an ADF member). In this role, you’ll provide vital support, education, and guidance to clients, consumers, and stakeholders, promoting strengths-based recovery practices and community support services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide personalized peer support services following policies.
  • Share your lived experience to enhance awareness, understanding, and service quality.
  • Be a role model for mental health recovery and wellness, educating and engaging clients, communities, and stakeholders.
  • Co-facilitate relevant group programs.
  • Collaborate effectively with the Community Engagement Team.
  • Represent and advocate for a recovery-focused approach to service delivery for veterans, current ADF members, and their families.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of Clinical Practice and Governance policies and Accreditation.
  • Participate in program evaluation, research, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support participative workplace practices aligned with WHS, Workplace Diversity, and APS values.
  • Collaborate with Community and Peer Advisors locally and nationally, contributing to a peer work Community of Practice.
  • Attend regular supervision, training, case conferencing, and case review meetings.

Mandatory Skills and Experience:

  • Lived experience of mental health issues and ADF service (ex-ADF member or partner/carer of an ADF member).
  • Ability to respectfully and effectively use your experience to support others.
  • Willingness to undertake relevant training and professional development.
  • Obtain Working with Children (WWC) and/or Vulnerable People Checks/Clearance before starting.

Highly Desirable Skills and Experience:

  • Experience supporting veterans and/or their family members, promoting recovery-oriented behaviors.
  • Experience in casework or other human services delivery.
