Position Details

Role: Domestic and Family Violence Practitioner

Work Location: Nambour, QLD

Employment Type: Permanent Part-Time 4 days/week, 30hrs, 32hrs or 34.4hrs

Wage: $40- $44 hourly

Mandatory Qualification & Experience: Diploma or Degree in Community Services; Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the Family Support or Child Safety sector, particularly in Domestic Violence with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.

Position reports to: Team Leader

Position Summary

The Specialist Domestic and Family Violence Worker (SDFVW), will work alongside REFOCUS programs to provide culturally appropriate, holistic, wrap-around, trauma informed, and responsive services to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families affected by domestic and family violence.

Accountabilities (more details in the position description and selection criteria)

  • assess and undertake risk assessments of referrals received where domestic and family violence has been identified as a presenting concern
  • develop and maintain appropriate referral pathways to specialist domestic and family violence, sexual violence and women’s support services
  • participate in relevant local network meetings, Integrated Service Response (ISR), High Risk Teams (HRT) and Local Level Alliances (LLA) that are specific to supporting services addressing domestic and family violence.
  • provide specialist advice and assistance to staff to ensure they are aware of the nature and impact of domestic and family violence; and the impact on the work they do with clients and family members
  • provide staff with advice and assistance with safety planning including, safe engagement strategies for families affected by domestic and family violence, including strategies to assess, monitor and minimise risk to family members and workers.
  • participate in client home visits where appropriate
  • work jointly with staff to ensure the support needs of the family and/or family members are met; and decisions regarding case management and referral pathways
  • Working with families impacted by domestic and family violence;
  • Understanding and implementing Child Protection Act 1999 core principles
  • Assessing, determining the needs, case management and referral pathways of individuals affected by family/domestic violence. (include Risk assessment)
  • Supporting, advising and mentoring staff in the above
