Shannon Spence and Associates is a social work company with offices in Charlestown and Tuggerah. We provide supports to people living in Newcastle, the Hunter, and Central Coast regions. 

Our clients present with a range of needs including complex care, mental health, intellectual disabilities, physical and communication difficulties.

About the Role

We are seeking three (3) full time Social Workers, based in Charlestown or Tuggerah Office, working a 38-hour week. Initially providing Support Coordination and more intensive Specialist Support Coordination, you will be trained and mentored to progress to a Behaviour Support Practitioner role. 

You will be supported by our experienced Social Workers while becoming familiar with the role. You will report directly to our Senior Social Worker and will be provided with supervision and ongoing support.

We are seeking highly motivated Social Workers with appropriate knowledge and skills to join our friendly and supportive team.

Key Responsibilities

You will be required to:

  • Provide engagement, assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation for people with complex support needs.
  • Provide specialist interventions utilising person-centred practices for people with complex support needs.
  • Consult and liaise with individuals, families/carers, internal clinicians, external clinicians (including Allied Health and other medical professionals), external service providers and government agency staff at Commonwealth and State levels.
  • Ensure interventions are delivered within professional, organisational, legal, and ethical boundaries, reflecting evidence-based, best practice knowledge.
  • Exercise professional judgement for the clinical assessment and management of people referred to our business, based on level of experience and seek support from more experienced clinicians as required.
  • Ensure professional responsibilities are met including contribution to the disciplines professional network, engagement in ongoing education and training, actively participate in regular professional practice supervision, and complete activities associated with supervision as negotiated with supervisor.

Skills and Experience

You must have: 

  • Completed a Social Work degree. Recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
  • Registration or eligibility with Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
  • An understanding of, or willingness to learn about, the NDIS framework and practices.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, or willingness to learn, the approaches of positive behaviour support including Restrictive Practices and the role of the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A flexible and adaptive positive attitude when working with clients, families, and various organisations to achieve client-centred goals.
  • Willingness to extend your learning, accept feedback, and strive for best practice.
  • A current driver’s license.

You will need to complete:

  • Working With Children Check (WWCC)
  • NDIS Worker Check (NDISWC)
  • Australian Police Check will need to be completed.
