JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Part Time position based in Darwin (Ongoing – Subject to funding)

3 Days per week

Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 8:30am – 5:00pm 

  • SCHADS Award Grade 5 – $105,446 TRP (including salary $93,859) PRO RATA
  • Salary packaging option (up to an additional $15,900 p/a)

About CatholicCare NT and the Program 

CatholicCare NT, in collaboration with the Domestic Violence Legal Service program, aims to provide an integrated holistic service, dedicated to mental health support offered to protected persons affected by family violence. 

The program goal is to reduce impacts from any negative mental health engagement with the legal system and experiences of family violence. The focus of this role is to prioritise victim safety and perpetrator accountability.

 

About the role

The Mental Health Counsellor (DFV) provides one-on-one counselling, therapeutic interventions and case management to women and children who have experienced domestic and family violence, in order to increase their safety and wellbeing. The role works closely with other CatholicCare NT services including but not limited to Family and Relationships Services, Victims of Crime, Men’s Behaviour Change and Financial Wellbeing.

 

What we are looking for 

  • Relevant qualification in Mental Health, Psychology, Social Work or Counselling
  • Demonstrated knowledge and awareness of the dynamics, impacts and effects of domestic and family violence on families and individuals; 
  • The ability to provide trauma-informed care and an understanding of the impact of abuse on mental health; 
  • Experience in conducting mental health assessments, particularly those related to trauma, anxiety, depression, and other psychological effects resulting from the experience of domestic violence;
  • Membership or eligibility to join a governing body such as PACFA, AASW or ACA;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds; 
  • Strong file management including case notes and records of engagement with clients; 
  • Demonstrated knowledge and awareness of the issues impacting Aboriginal people and disadvantaged families in the NT.
