MADEC is a not for profit organisation operating in South Australia, Victoria, Queensland, New South Wales and Tasmania. We believe a job can change a life and we are driven to help people in financial or social disadvantage. Through employment services, vocational training, labour hire, and other services and programs, we empower people; connect with support; enhance skills and confidence; and provide opportunities to reach the goal of employment.
As a result of an increase in our business share across north-west Victoria, Wimmera Mallee and Goulburn Murray, we require a Counsellor or Social Worker to join and support our employment services division.
About the Role
As a Social Worker or Counsellor you will work with our participants to provide support, such as mental health support, access to social services, sourcing of temporary accommodation, parenting support, life skills training and referral to specialist health services.
Working within this unique context, the successful applicant will actively participate and contribute to the development of a positive culture aimed towards providing appropriate services for long term unemployed; which could include completing assessments, planning and implementing intervention programs as well as providing opportunities for success.
A considerable percentage of the participants you will be supporting are suffering social isolation, depression or addiction and require support to rebuild their self-esteem and independence.
Sound counselling skills are essential, preferably with some experience working by phone.
About You
Applicants must hold a degree or graduate diploma in social work, behavioural or social science, counselling or other allied health field, and where required hold relevant registrations or professional membership. To be successful, you will have a strong ability to build and maintain rapport with our participants and team members; building trust through the use of open communication; and adapting methods of engagement to meet individual needs.
A National Police check and Working with Children check is required upon commencement of this role.
Our Culture and Benefits
MADEC prides itself on providing a supportive environment with opportunities for personal growth and development. In addition to offering a competitive salary, as a not-for-profit organisation, we provide generous salary sacrifice arrangements up to the value of $15,900 per annum, and tax-free entertainment expenses.
