About the Role

We are currently seeking applications for a 12 month fixed term, part time Family Intervention Practitioner located at our Bowen venue, on the basis of 30 hours per week. Workdays/hours will be negotiated with the successful applicant.

The purpose of this position is to support parents to develop and build their capacity to provide for the care and protection needs of their children. The role will support clients to meet the care goals identified by the Qld Child Protection Authority (Child Safety).  

The key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Working with clients referred from the Department of Child Safety, including completion of client assessment and intake risk factors
  • Documenting and delivering individual and family work and education programs aimed at promoting the safety and wellbeing of children/young people and developing or enhancing parenting and home management skills
  • Providing effective prevention and early intervention strategies via the application of knowledge relating to child protection issues
  • Providing intensive intervention to parents, care providers, children, and families to build strengths within families to support the needs of children.
  • Networking and developing collaborative relationships with relevant government and community agencies
  • Liaising effectively with Child Safety and other key stakeholders working with the family
  • Completing reports including client progress reports to Child Safety and other reports as required
  • Identifying, assessing, and planing for the client’s support needs utilising a case management approach including development of appropriate case plans and review, evaluation, and closure of cases

About You

To be successful in this position, you will have:

  • Appropriate tertiary qualifications in the social or behavioural sciences or relevant experience paired with demonstrated experience
  • Theoretical knowledge of working therapeutically with children and their parents / care providers in relation to child development, abuse and/or neglect.
  • Understanding of theoretical frameworks and models of child and adult education and community capacity building, and well-developed group facilitation skills.
  • Experience in managing caseloads and effective time management and knowledge and application of relevant legislation and regulations, with specific reference to child protection.

The salary being offered is $80,963.63 to $96,817.50 per annum, pro rata, to be negotiated depending upon qualifications and experience, plus superannuation.
