Position Summary

The role of Child and Family Wellbeing Practitioner provides a medium to high level range of relevant skills, abilities and services as part of agreed plans for children and young people aged 0-18 in need, children at risk of significant harm. The role of REFOCUS Practitioner provide a high level of assessments and recommendations identifying ongoing supports necessary for ongoing case management for children and their families. As well as facilitate and maintain a high level of advocacy and interventions, ensuring the child’s needs are matched appropriately to the carer’s skill and home environment.

Position Details

Primary Role: Child & Family Wellbeing Practitioner Medium- High Level

Work Location: Gympie, Queensland

Employment Type: 4 days (34.4hrs)

Salary Range: $38 – $45 per hour

Qualification & Experience: Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Community/Social Services and/or 2years minimum work experience.

Reports to: Team Leader

Position Description

  • Required organise, supervise, observe and analyse contact between children and their parents in accordance with Court directions or orders, and to provide written reports regarding these. Within these sessions, to make assessments about the quality of interactions between parents and children, and if this is deemed to be harmful to take actions to terminate the session.
  • Trained to deliver DFV programs/interventions, Triple P Parenting Courses and Circle of Security Program or other relevant parenting programs, and provide evidence of their ability, experience and training and contribute to assessments and evaluations of this work.
  • Support the work of the Targeted Youth & Disabilities and work with young people how are in the transition to adulthood (T2A) and young people who have been homeless to enhance their self-care skills and support their move into successful independent living and into sustainable employment and suitable accommodation.
  • Undertake direct work with parents/carers with regard to daily tasks e.g. cooking, cleaning, and budget management and parenting skills e.g. basic care routines, attachment, play, stimulation, managing challenging behaviour, designed to improve the quality of life for children and young people and improving parenting. This work to be undertaken on a one-to-one basis and/or through group work.
  • To work with parents to increase and improve their understanding of the importance of early attachment and the impact of domestic violence/substance abuse upon children’s development and actions they can take to address these.
  • To provide support and advice to parents and to young people regarding local support services, benefits, housing, training and employment opportunities.
  • To undertake the above tasks in a variety of settings including family homes, schools, children’s centres, foster homes, young people’s accommodation.
  • To develop positive working relationships with families, young people and careers as the basis for engaging them in effective work to improve quality of life, life chances, and outcomes.
  • To contribute to the provision of team duty services and responses as required.
  • To maintain accurate and up to date case records in accordance with REFOCUS policy and service standards.
