headspace provides early intervention mental health services to young people aged 12-25 experiencing mild to moderate or emerging mental health issues. The multidisciplinary team at headspace Liverpool work to improve health, social, vocational and educational outcomes for young people.
 
Grand Pacific Health is the lead agency of headspace Liverpool. We are a not-for-profit, primary health care organisation providing locally-tailored, high quality physical and mental health services across NSW and the ACT.
 
About the position
 
The Youth Enhanced Support Service (YESS) provides youth friendly, strengths-focused support to young people with, or at risk of, developing a serious mental illness that can significantly impact their day-to-day work, education, social and/or personal life.
 
The Peer Worker will work within the headspace team to provide open, appropriate, and effective support to young people accessing the YESS Program. 

As a Peer Worker, your own life experience of mental health and personal recovery will provide a distinct advantage as you support people with a lived experience of mental health issues.  You will aim to nurture hope and personal power to inspire the people that you support to move forward with their lives. 
 
Essential qualities of this position include:

  • Lived experience of mental health issues.
  • Practical knowledge and understanding of issues experienced by people with mental ill health.
  • Understanding of the recovery process and ability to communicate a lived experience of recovery.
  • Capacity to share one’s own story appropriately in a variety of contexts.
  • Ability to establish relationships and maintain appropriate boundaries.
  • Ability to manage your own wellness including the identification of strategies for staying well whilst working
Based in headspace Liverpool, this is a part-time position (30 hours per week) and is fixed term until 30 June 2024 with possibility of extension. 

We are looking for someone with:

  1. Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work (or commencement or a willingness to work towards qualification within first year) 
  2.  Direct lived experience of life changing mental health challenges, mental health service use, as well as periods of healing and personal recovery.
  3. Commitment to safely and purposely share lived experience to engender hope and support others on their personal recovery journey.
  4. Ability to utilise interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective and mutual relationships with consumers 
  5. Current driver’s license and willingness to travel as part of the role
