Arcadia College is a Co-Ed Independent Special Assistance Secondary School for young people who have disengaged from mainstream schooling. We require a suitably qualified and experienced Student Engagement Officer. Student Engagement Officers are responsible for managing and supporting student engagement and wellbeing within individual classes, including help manage student attendance, reset/re-engage and facilitating the implementation of student support plans within the classroom. Student Engagement Officers will adopt and implement a trauma-informed care approach, through a variety of targeted tools and strategies to best support the young person. Student Engagement Officers will also be responsible for delivering a developmental Social-Emotional Learning program, running morning check-in activities, mindfulness activities and brain break activities throughout the day as required.

Selection Criteria/Key Responsibilities

  • Adopt, implement and utilise a Trauma-Informed Care approach fostering three core areas: Positive relationships, Safety through routine and structure, Emotional Regulation
  • Implement strategies to support a Trauma-Informed Care approach as recommended by the Wellbeing team
  • To support Youth Workers, Year Coordinators, Wellbeing Team and Teachers in implementation of positive intervention, support plans and strategies in the successful management of the classroom including student engagement and behaviour.
  • To support Youth Workers in managing individual student attendance, including implementing attendance support plans and other approved interventions as necessary.
  • Manage student engagement using reset, re-engage and protective interruption strategies including liaising with and referring to the Wellbeing/Triage Team as required
  • Communicate and facilitate face to face meetings with parents, carers and key community stakeholders as required
  • Maintain accurate and timely case notes
  • Facilitate group activities during break times, including SEL programs, check in activities, mindfulness programs and brain break activities 
  • Individual learning support for students with identified learning barriers 
  • Assist young people to develop social and personal skills 
  • Flexibility to work across multiple cohorts
  • Ability to exercise and maintain the privacy and confidentiality of students and families at all times
  • Provide additional staffing support on camps or school excursions as required

Skills & Qualifications required:

  • Minimum -Degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience working as Student Engagement Officer in an Educational setting.
  • Experience working with dis-engaged students, students with disabilities and Youth at risk.
  • Understanding of mandatory reporting requirements in an education setting
  • An ability to successfully engage young people in relevant and dynamic learning
  • Knowledge of current youth services on the Gold Coast
  • Meticulous attention to detail with experience in managing high levels of administration and communication. 
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of ‘Duty of Care’ & Disability Standards.
  • Highly organised with the ability to balance and resolve conflicting priorities and work to deadlines.
  • Outstanding presentation and the capacity to develop genuine connections with parents and carers of potential students. 
  • Demonstrated experience in dealing appropriately with highly confidential and sensitive information.
  • Advanced computer & Microsoft Suite Skills.
  • Current Paid (P) Qld Working With Children Blue Card.
  • Clear National Police check.
  • Current First Aid/CPR

This position is permanent & part time, term time only, 36 hours per week.
