If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join the Department of Veterans Affairs, a federal government department, as a Community & Peer Advisor in Winnellie, NT.

About the Role:

As a Community & Peer Advisor, you will play a crucial role in providing support, guidance, and advocacy services to veterans and their families. You will be a valuable resource within the community, assisting individuals in accessing the services and benefits they are entitled to.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with veterans and their families to assess their needs and provide tailored support.
  • Act as a peer mentor and advocate, offering empathy and understanding to those facing challenges.
  • Collaborate with government agencies, community organizations, and support networks to coordinate services.
  • Provide information and advice on available benefits, programs, and resources.
  • Foster a sense of community among veterans and their families, promoting social inclusion and wellbeing.

Requirements:

  • Australian citizenship is a mandatory requirement for this role.
  • Demonstrated experience in community support, peer mentoring, or advocacy. Lived experiences of working with or having family members who are veterans is an advantage.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Empathetic and compassionate approach to working with veterans and their families.
  • Ability to build and maintain positive relationships within the community.
  • Mental health qualification desirable
  • Willingness to work towards a Cert IV in Mental Health Peer work

Contract Details:

  • This position is offered on a fixed-term contract basis until June 30, 2024, with a strong possibility for extension.
  • Competitive hourly rate: $50.00 – $55.00 per hour (plus superannuation).
