Practice Lead – Behavioural Services Activated Concepts

JOB DESCRIPTION

PRIMARY PURPOSE

Activated Concepts’ Practice Lead – Behavioural Services (Practice Lead) are highly experienced clinical leaders in behavioural assessments, interventions, plans, training, and reviews. They practice with a trauma-informed lens, in a person-centered manner with the participant, their family, and other relevant stakeholders. Practice Leads take the lead and mentor best practices in comprehensive functional assessments, report writing and individualised support plans that have the least intrusive/restrictive actions possible. They strive to reduce behaviour(s) of concern and eliminate the use of restrictive practices wherever possible.

Activated Concepts’ Practice Leads provide two focus areas to their team:

  1. Specialist Behavioural Interventions: managing complex participants with high needs and/or who are in crisis via highly developed functional assessments, and completely tailored positive behavioural support plans that assist participants to reduce harmful behaviours and pursue their goals for the future. Practice Lead’s also will be responsible for providing training, assisting participants, family members and other support providers to understand and implement the participant’s plan. Following this, they collect data from their engagements, and the implementing provider, to review the plan with the participant and their networks were needed.
  2. Leading and Mentoring staff: providing day-to-day supervision, mentoring, and training at the direction and approval of the Manager – NDIS Clinical Services.

Activated Concepts’ Practice Leads work with youth, people with a disability and others to achieve their individual goals, dreams and aspirations as well as enhance the individual’s participation in the community.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Lead a trauma-informed and person-centred evidence-based recovery-approach with a moderate to complex caseload averaging 20-25 billable hours per week (FTE).

• Supervision and mentoring of Behavioural Practitioners, at the direction and approval of the Manager – NDIS Clinical Services.

• Networking and Intake Management, at the direction and approval of the Manager – NDIS Clinical Services.

• Resource creation, review and training at Clinical Group Supervision and individually with staff, at the direction and approval of the Manager – NDIS Clinical Services.

• Maintain an advanced understanding of the NDIS Commission, including the NDIS Restrictive Practices and Behaviour Support Rules 2018

• Maintain a contemporary knowledge of Functional Behavioural Assessments, which consider the strengths of the person, and the ABC of behaviour and engage the important networks in participants world to complete a holistic assessment and see them in their context

• Development, completion, lodging and implementation of Positive Behavioural Support (PBS) Plans to assist the participant in meeting their goals with a commitment to utilising the least restrictive means including the reduction and elimination of restrictive practices wherever possible.

• Provide training and support to assist Activated Staff and other support providers in implementing relevant PBS Plans

• Completing and documenting comprehensive psychosocial assessments and reports of support needs, areas for development, strengths, and current capabilities

• Development, completion, and implementation of recovery plans to assist the participant to meet their psychosocial and functional goals

• Assisting participants, families, key workers, and support providers to understand and overcome any barriers associated with behavioural capacity/changes across the Hunter and Central Coast.

• Collecting data and conducting periodic reviews of the PBS Plan to assist the participant in meeting their needs, goals and strategies are accurate

• Engaging stakeholders, providing training and leadership and identifying opportunities to increase capacity and resilience for other support providers

• The ability to engage stakeholders and participate in multidisciplinary collaboration, clinical review discussions and provide expert consultation

• Ensure all administrative tasks are completed accurately and on time

• Have the ability to attend appointments with participants in the community

• Maintain Professional Registrations, Working with Children Check, NDIS Worker Check and a clear Criminal Record.

SELECTION CRITERIA

1. Willingness to obtain or current registration with the NDIS Commission as a ‘Proficient’ or higher Behavioural Support Practitioner

2. Minimum of three years’ experience working in trauma-informed care and with psychosocial disabilities in the health, education, justice, disability, out-of-homecare and/or specialist homelessness sector etc

3. Sound experience in completing psychosocial and functional and/or behaviour assessments, which focus on recovery, engage the family/stakeholders, and see the participant in their context.

4. Clear and effective communication skills and ability to establish a professional relationship with participant and their families

5. Sound knowledge and compliance with the NDIS Commission, Practice Standards and NDIS Code of Conduct

6. Attention to detail and accuracy in the record management

7. Flexibility to work in with participant availability, attend training or meetings as required etc

8. Understanding and commitment to confidentiality legislation and discretion for participants

9. Current valid Australian driver’s license and a registered, insured vehicle

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING

1. Relevant degree in Human Services (Social Work, Behavioural Sciences, Nursing, Psychology, Social Science etc) and registration with the associated regulatory body

2. NDIS Worker Screening Check – prior to commencement

3. NSW Working with Children Check – prior to commencement

4. NDIS Orientation Certificate – prior to commencement

5. OCG Child Safe Training completion email – prior to commencement

Roles will be mostly community based and travel around Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Hunter will likely be required, as appropriate.
