About Our Program

The South Burnett Domestic and Family Violence Service provides support to people in Cherbourg and across the South Burnett who have been impacted by Domestic and Family Violence. This service prioritises the safety and wellbeing of people experiencing (or at risk of experiencing) domestic and family violence through a collaborative, client centred approach aimed at empowering clients to meet their individual, safety and support goals.

Position Description

As a Domestic and Family Violence Counsellor, you will play a critical role in providing counseling and support to individuals affected by domestic and family violence. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting individual and group counselling sessions
  • Assessing the needs and safety risks of clients
  • Developing personalized safety plans and intervention strategies
  • Providing crisis intervention and emotional support
  • Collaborating with other professionals and community organizations
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential client records

By utilising your expertise and empathy, you will help clients navigate their journey towards healing and empowerment.

Candidate Profile

Our ideal candidate possesses:

  • A recognised qualification in Counselling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field
  • Experience working with individuals affected by domestic and family violence
  • Experience in compiling case notes, safety plans, risk assessments and support plans and maintaining them on a database system within strict timeframes
  • Excellent communication and active listening skills
  • Empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental attitude
  • The ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team

Salary & Benefits

The position offers a salary of $41.52 per hour, in accordance with Level 4 of the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award. Additionally, we provide a not-for-profit salary packaging option, allowing you to optimize your earnings and take advantage of tax benefits.
