JOB DESCRIPTION

  • 2 x Fixed Term Positions for Term 4 (until December 2023)
  • Moonah Primary School – 3 Days per week (15 hours)
  • Collinsvale Primary School – 1 Day per week (5 hours)
  • Potential contract renewal in 2024 subject to funding

Hobart City Mission brings together people who want to give to and support those most in need in our local community, through the provision of client focused, holistic and innovative programs and services.

Our School Chaplains provide pastoral care services and strategies that support the emotional wellbeing of the broader school community. The School Chaplain is coordinated by Hobart City Mission but works closely under the guidance of the senior school staff.

You will be responsible for the following:

  • Assist school counsellors and wellbeing staff in the delivery of student welfare services
  • Build positive relationships and support members of the School Community at risk or facing hardship or trauma through the provision of counselling and pastoral care
  • Promote an understanding of diversity and a range of cultures and their related traditions
  • Provide students, their families and staff with support and/or appropriate referrals, in difficult situations such as during times of grief or when students are facing personal or emotional challenges

To be successful, you will demonstrate the following:

  • Certificate 4 in Youth Work, Pastoral Care, or equivalent qualification as determined by the Department of Education
  • An understanding of the theory and practice of pastoral care in a school context
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build positive relationships with school community (teachers, children, parents, government department), HCM managers, and other key stakeholders
