JOB DESCRIPTION

Our client is a dedicated and compassionate organization committed to supporting individuals and families experiencing financial crisis. We are seeking a Full-Time Financial Counsellor to join the team, providing immediate and intensive one-on-one support to those in need. By addressing their financial challenges, the organisation aims to contribute to improved outcomes for vulnerable members of our community.

Position Overview:
As a Full-Time Financial Counsellor, you will play a crucial role in helping individuals facing financial crisis by providing direct case work and one-on-one intensive support. You will conduct in-depth assessments of their financial situations, offer guidance, and make referrals to appropriate support services as necessary. Your work will be essential in alleviating immediate financial stress and empowering individuals to achieve financial stability.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough and sensitive assessments of clients’ financial situations, taking into account their immediate support needs and challenges.
  • Develop and implement individualised financial support plans to address clients’ unique needs, including budgeting and debt management.
  • Collaborate with other support services, agencies, and community resources to refer clients to supplementary services that can assist with their overall well-being (e.g., mental health support, housing assistance).
  • Provide immediate crisis intervention to clients facing urgent financial challenges, such as eviction, utility disconnection, or food insecurity.
  • Educate clients on financial literacy and empower them to make informed decisions about their finances.
  • Advocate on behalf of clients to help them access appropriate social services, benefits, or legal assistance.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records, case notes, and progress reports.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners, agencies, and stakeholders to enhance support networks for clients.

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Community Services, Financial Counselling or equivalent 
  • Proven experience in financial counseling, case management, or related roles.
  • Strong understanding of financial systems, budgeting, and debt management.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Empathy, patience, and the ability to work effectively with individuals facing financial crisis.
  • Knowledge of community resources and support services.
  • Strong organisational and documentation skills.
