Youturn is a not-for-profit organisation that started in 1989 to help address youth homelessness in Noosa.  Since then, the organisation and grown and evolved, and now provides health and social services to over 6,000 young people and their families annually, to assist them in achieving their full potential.

Youturn is the lead agency of five headspace centres across Southern Queensland that focus on early intervention for young people through a range of services.

About StandBy Support After Suicide

The StandBy Support After Suicide Service is Australia’s leading suicide postvention program dedicated to supporting people and communities affected by suicide. StandBy was established in 2002 by Youturn Limited and currently operates in numerous communities across Australia. StandBy has considerable experience in the provision of postvention support in a range of communities and contexts and is nationally and internationally recognised.

The Opportunity: 

The Support Team Worker’s primary mission is to provide support to those who have been impacted or bereaved by suicide. This role demands:

  • Direct face-to-face support to both individuals, families and groups who have been impacted by suicide
  • Working on a casual basis completing support sessions, largely in people’s homes. Some travel and after-hours work required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver person-centered support in line with the StandBy Model, potentially necessitating regional travel and outside-business-hours services.
  • Assist the StandBy Regional Coordinator in community growth activities, including workshops, events, and promotional efforts.
  • Regularly communicate with the StandBy Regional Coordinator, engaging in supervision, team meetings, and professional growth.
  • Adhere to StandBy’s data recording protocols and ensure all support notes are accurately documented.
  • Keep abreast of the best practices associated with StandBy’s support model.

Are you the right fit?

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications or experience in social science, health, or related disciplines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Expertise in person-centered, trauma-informed, crisis support, and self-care practices.
  • ASIST training is a plus (the selected applicant will be supported to obtain this upon recruitment).
  • A valid ‘C’ class driver’s license.
  • Eligibility for a working with children check.
