About the Role

The Navigator program supports young people aged 12-17 years who are at risk of disengaging from school (30% or less school attendance). It provides intensive case management and assertive outreach support to disengaged learners to enable them to return to education. This program is delivered in partnership with the Department of Education (DE) within the Barwon region, working closely with local schools.

The Caseworker will work in partnership with an integrated team of professionals inclusive of; parents/carers, school representatives and other professionals, young people and their families to address the barriers to school engagement. The role is responsible for providing high quality assertive outreach to young people disengaged from education to increase protective factors that will enable young people to develop aspirations, make pro social connections and engage in a pathway back to education.

The key objectives of this role are:

  • Provide assertive outreach to young people and their families and developing meaningful engagement.
  • Assess the holistic needs of the young person and their families – with a particular focus on the barriers to education re-entry (secondary is the preference.)
  • Establishing a responsive care team inclusive of in-kind services, development of a care plan and an education re-engagement plan and coordination of care team and capacity building with education settings for student re-entry.

  • $94,077 p/a (pro rata) + super + salary packaging

About You

  • Qualification or equivalent in Youth, Social Work, Psychology or Community Welfare (Diploma +) and experience in client service functions
  • Ability to develop and establish effective relationships with young people and parents/carers
  • Ability to form a sound ecological perspective of client circumstances, with minimal information to rapidly determine supports using appropriate tools
  • Experience networking with schools, internal and external services in a collaborative and supported approach.
  • Understand the purpose and expectations of the Victorian Child Safe Standards and a demonstrated commitment to contributing to a child safe organisation in both practice and culture.
