We are a not for profit, registered Indigenous Corporation and charity responding to the decrease in brain health in our communities. We deliver and co-design personalised, and community-based programs supported by neuroscientific research to address the impact of adverse life events in children, young people, and families. One of our core programs, The Yili Program, is a short-term alternative education program, invaluable in its uniqueness and flexibility. Students gain experience in a wide range of activities that build their confidence and self-esteem, which increases their engagement with learning. 

We are currently seeking a passionate Transition Manager to join our team on a full-time basis on a 5 year contract term, to support young people transitioning out of youth detention to the Yili Program in Inala.

  • In this role, you would be responsible for working collaboratively with all Yiliyapinya staff to design and deliver neuroplasticity and cultural programs to young people and their families in a variety of settings including health, education, community organisations and in and out of Youth Detention. 
  • You will build professional relationships with young people, families and stakeholders and assist young people to transition to education, training, or employment. 
  • The role will follow a standard 38 work week (8:30am – 4:30pm, Monday – Friday)

Your day may include:

  • Attending youth detention centre and building rapport and supporting young people
  • Working collaboratively with Teachers to prepare and deliver neuroplasticity, cultural and educational activities to young people in and out of youth detention, including obtaining materials and resources for lessons, completing PD training and any other items required to fulfil neuroplasticity activity requirements
  • Supervising and engaging with youth throughout neuroplasticity and cultural program either at Yili or in detention, and provide encouragement and guidance to motivate them and promote their overall engagement
  • Identifying and addressing special needs of young people including learning, health-related concerns, physical and emotional needs
  • Developing and implementing transition plans to support young people transitioning out of youth detention to the Yili Program
  • Supporting young people and their families in the Yili Program to attend activities onsite, TAFE and employment
  • Carrying out Risk Assessment processes
  • Coordinating and attending Cultural Camps and other weekend programs for young people and their families – this includes booking accommodation, sourcing and booking activities, coordinating transportation and facilities and any other items as required
  • Overseeing the mentoring program to connect young people in youth detention and transitioning outwards with suitable mentors

Our ideal new addition will have:

  • At least 5 years’ experience working in youth justice or youth work
  • Demonstrated experience working with high-risk youth aged between 10 – 15
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and both written and verbal communication 
  • High computer literacy 
  • Strong organisation, time management and administrative skills 
  • Ability to build strong rapport with all stakeholders 
  • Culturally safety adherence
  • Cert 4 in Youth Justice or Youth Work (preferably Diploma level)
  • Valid Blue Card and Drivers licence
  • Valid First Aid Certificate
  • Up to date with vaccination requirements – dealing with vulnerable people
