About the role

The Men and Families Health and SEWB Co-ordinator (MFHSC) is a part of the The Walan Ngayi-ny Dhulubang (Strong Mind, Strong Spirit) team which is the Social Emotion Wellbeing and Mental Health (SEWBMH) arm of OAMS. The primary responsibility of the (MFHSC) is to provide support to OAMS male clients and their families in navigating the social, emotional and physical impacts that effect their health & wellbeing. 

The overarching function of the MFHSC is to ensure that support is planned and coordinated to enable effective access for Aboriginal Men and their families to appropriate services both internal and external to OAMS, along with the development of specific male-lead targeted community development and capacity building programs and activities, in partnership with other stakeholders such as Elder’s groups and Aboriginal Men’s Groups.

 

Key Selection Criteria

1. Agreement of and ability to complete Certificate IV in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Healthcare 

2. Demonstrated understanding of trauma-informed care 

3. Sound communication skills both verbal and written 

4. Demonstrated experience working unsupervised and as part of a team 

5. Ability to navigate social service supports for individuals and families 

6. Knowledge of NDIS and Out-of-Home Care (OOHC) services and systems 

 

Desirable:

  1. Current First Aid and CPR Certificate 
  2. Current Mental Health First Aid 
  3. Knowledge of criminal justice system 
  4. Knowledge of environmental health
