Exciting opportunity to be part of the newly established Koolambidi Woola Youth Engagement Program, which aims to support at-risk young people in the Bunbury youth precinct.  As one of two Youth Engagement Workers, you will work to provide a detached youth work presence to young people experiencing hardship and mental health distress.  You will promote positive social and emotional wellbeing messages, increase awareness around mental health concerns, encourage help-seeking behaviours and provide advocacy on behalf of young people to referring agencies. You’ll also plan and deliver scheduled activities to engage new and existing precinct users, that will work to increase a sense of social connection and belonging.  

This is a part time, 0.37 FTE (14 hours per week), for the duration of this program until April 2024. The successful candidate must be available to work in Bunbury on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons until 7pm.

What you will bring

You are a passionate and talented individual who is driven to deliver a high-quality services to young people.

You will have:

  • Minimum Cert IV level qualification in Community Services, Youth Work or relevant experience
  • Ability to engage and build strong relationships with and motivate ‘at risk’ young people
  • Ability to accept,  respect and work with young people:
    • from a broad range of backgrounds and abilities
    • from different cultures, particularly with Aboriginal & CaLD young people
    • who may identify as LGBTI
    • from all belief systems
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Organisational skills in order to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively
  • Knowledge of resources in the community and youth services field within Bunbury and the South West
  • Knowledge of behaviour management, conflict resolution, advocacy and negotiation skills

The successful candidate must possess a current National Police Clearance valid within one year, a WA Working with Children Check, a Provide First Aid Certificate and a WA Driver’s Licence. 

 Benefits

  • $70,196 – $75,259 salary range per annum pro rata + 11% superannuation
  • In addition to your remuneration, you will enjoy generous tax-free salary packaging benefits where you can package up to $15,900 per annum and not pay tax on that amount.
  • Additional 3 days (pro-rata) leave per year and ability to purchase additional leave
