About This Opportunity

Supporting the Young Achievers Program (YAP), this role will build a cohort experience for students throughout their engagement with the program from initial selection through their transition to university and while they remain enrolled as students at UQ. This will include connecting students to relevant supports throughout their time, including centralised services such as counsellors and learning advisors, as well as Faculty based services that may be more directly relevant to their discipline or study expectations. As such, they will be a key contact and coordinating point for Faculties and the Scholarships Office to ensure coordinated and consistent service delivery for the YAP cohort. This role will create a sense of belonging, connection, and confidence within the cohort, leading to improved retention and success.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and assess the needs of YAP students and plan, design, and coordinate support programs that respond to these needs.
  • Coordinate and deliver support services for YAP students in person and online for a range of issues related to transition to university, including academic preparation and support, social cohesion, and sense of belonging.
  • Develop reports to monitor student experience and staff feedback to measure program success and deliver recommendations to support continuous improvement.
  • Display appropriate levels of confidentiality, discretion, judgement, and professionalism.
  • Provide specialist information to the Young Achievers Program (YAP) Coordinator to inform and continuously improve YAP Student Support programs, practice, and future strategy.
  • Develop and maintain networks and partnerships with other university staff, student groups, and external support services.
  • Any other duties as reasonably directed by your supervisor.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position through to December 2025.

At HEW level 6, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $84,871.95 to $91,158.90, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $99,300.18 to $106,655.91 annually.

About You

Our ideal candidate will have: –

Essential

  • An undergraduate qualification with significant relevant experience; or extensive experience and specialist expertise in the field of student support; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Demonstrated very high level of written, oral, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively liaise, communicate and negotiate with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Proven strong organisational skills and demonstrated ability to prioritise tasks and ensure that deadlines are met whilst demonstrating accuracy and attention to detail.
  • A demonstrated ability to understand human relations and behaviour and to assist students in dealing with their concerns
  • Advanced skills with computer applications such as Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in undergraduate student support administration procedures including awareness of the University’s responsibilities for academically at-risk students.
  • Ability to exercise critical judgment and provide relevant advice to students and staff
  • A commitment to assisting other staff members and contributing to the development of a professional and productive team.

Desirable

  • Demonstrated specialist knowledge of University Rules, Policies and Procedures, deadlines and Services relating to student matters or a capacity to rapidly gain such knowledge.
  • Knowledge and training in University student and academic administration systems, including SI-net, Blackboard and Business Objects.
