Your Opportunity

“ForWhen” aims to deliver perinatal mental health services for expectant and new parents experiencing or at risk of perinatal mental illness, including improved access to support services.

This role aims to improve access to specialised services for expectant and new parents dealing with perinatal mental health issues or related challenges. The Navigator will identifying available supports, guiding individuals through the process, whilst maintaining accurate records.

Duties will include:

  • Receive and action all calls from the help line from individuals and families seeking support
  • Coordinate intake and screening to direct parents and families to relevant local services
  • Support participants to navigate the complex perinatal and infant mental health service
  • Develop a plan with parents and families to meet immediate and long-term needs
  • Provide in person support withing the Darwin and Palmerston Hospitals one day per week
  • Effectively manage and lead our Aboriginal Liaison Officer
  • Ensure case notes are accurate and kept up to date

Requirements for Success

With an already established career in mental health, midwivery or nursing, you will be passionate about supporting parents with improved access to support services and provide guidance to those at risk of perinatal mental illness.

The skills and capabilities you bring include:

  • Qualification in or relevant to nursing, midwifery, social work, psychology with at least three years’ experience
  • Strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and communities – previous experience working within remote or regional groups would be beneficial
  • Previous perinatal and infant mental health experience
  • Experience working with clients with complex issues and needs
  • In-depth understanding of how social factors affect the health and well-being of infants, children, and families
  • Knowledge of parenting, family dynamics, child development, including attachment theory and trauma-informed care approaches
  • Exceptional communication skills and the ability to establish and build rapport with a range of people
  • Current NT Drivers Licence
  • Valid OCHRE Card (Working with Children)
