Mental Health Support Worker Aligned Community Care

JOB DESCRIPTION

Aligned Is seeking positive and strong Support staff/ mentors to work flexibly alongside people who have a disability or mental health issue and may be experiencing social isolation. We are looking for vibrant and intuitive Mentors who believe EVERYONE can participate in and be connected to their community. Aligned is a dynamic and growing organization that provides mentors with ongoing personal/career development opportunities and training.

Responsibilities of a Mentor:

The key responsibility of a Mentor is to work directly with individuals supporting them to achieve their goals. 

This may include:

  • Supporting individuals to gain independence in everyday life and learn new skills
  • Connecting individuals with recreational, sporting or community groups
  • Supporting individuals to use public transport
  • To find and keep a job in open employment
  • Collaborating with key people in an individual’s life, including family members, employers or other support services to achieve the best outcomes
  • Role model and advocate for people living with disability in the community
  • Participate in peer support meetings
     

Required Attributes:

  • Minimum Certificate III in Community Welfare or similar
  • Minimum 1 year experience in a Disability role
  • Trauma Informed Knowledge/Training
  • Experience with challenging Behaviours
  • Experience with implementation of Behaviour Support Plans 
  • Experience supporting individuals with Mental health
  • Creativity and outside-the-box thinking
     

Desirable Attributes:

  • Previous experience working with NDIS participant’s.
  • Mental Health First Aid
  • Trauma Trianing 
  • Previous experience working in a group home.
  • Working alongside marginalized groups
  • Youth work
  • Teaching or Counselling/Behavior Support
