Centacare Family and Relationship Services (CFRS) is a non-profit community organisation that supports the strengthening of family and community relationships, particularly where there is vulnerability or disadvantage. The role:
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Practitioners to join the Fraser Coast, Family Mental Health Support Services team. CFRS are seeking two one (12) Part time Practitioners, offering 4 days / 30 hours per week.
The position will suit a dedicated and knowledgeable Practitioners who will assist in the provision and support of early intervention for vulnerable families with children and young people, up to 18 years of age, who are showing early signs of, or are at risk of, developing a mental illness, as well as assisting with counselling and facilitation of psycho-educational groups, (.e.g. parenting, children’s programs, etc.).
The service provides a range of flexible, responsive, non-clinical mental health support services which may include assessment and identification of needs, practical assistance and home based support, information and referral, direct support.
You will be required to provide high quality service supports and interventions within the framework of Centacare Family and Relationship Services’ mission, values and vision.
Key Duties:
- Provide early intervention support to vulnerable families and children at risk of mental illness, including assessments and practical assistance.
- Facilitate psycho-educational groups and deliver counselling services using contemporary techniques.
- Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration with clients and colleagues to maintain an inclusive practice environment.
- Apply expertise in child-centred support, outreach and cultural sensitivity, especially with Indigenous families.
- Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to professional and statutory requirements.
Skills and Experience:
- Knowledge, skills and experience in the provision of child-centred and family focused early intervention supports, including collaborative assessment and planning with children and young people who are showing early signs of, or are at risk of, developing a mental illness with diverse and complex needs.
- Demonstrated experience working effectively in diverse outreach and family home contexts.
- Knowledge, skills and experience in the principles and practices of contemporary theories, and a working knowledge of psychotherapeutic counselling techniques, brief solution focused intervention, trauma informed practice, family systems theory, group theories and dynamics, as appropriate to the role.
- Demonstrated understanding of the specific needs and factors for engaging sensitively and appropriately with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people and their families.
- Well-developed understanding of Domestic and Family Violence, Child Protection and Family Law issues and the impact on families engaged with these systems.
- Demonstrated articulation of a well-developed practice framework including, but not exclusive of, a demonstrated understanding and experience in:
- Anti-racist and culturally safe and informed practice.
- Strengths-based, solution focused needs assessment and holistic family case planning.
- Child and youth development-informed practice
- Risk screening and assessment for domestic and family violence, child protection and suicidality
- Well-developed written work, including report writing, case notes, data collection, data entry and computer literacy skills.
Essential requirements for the role:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Social or Behavioural Sciences, from a recognised tertiary institution.
- Eligibility for membership of APS, AASW, or similar recognised professional association.
- Hold a current Blue Card – or be eligible to apply.
- Agree, if offered employment, to Centacare conducting an Australian Federal Police Criminal History Check.
- Agree to sign a statutory declaration stating you have no overseas criminal offences.
- Have Australian Work Rights – Australian citizenship/Visa. Documentary evidence is to be provided at the interview (please contact us for details if needed).
