About the role

We are currently seeking a compassionate and experienced Family Violence Counsellor or Generalist and Family Violence Counsellor to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about making a positive impact in the lives of those affected by family violence and possess the necessary skills to provide counselling and support services.

Responsibilities

• Provide counselling to women who are experiencing family violence and/or its lasting effects, and generalist counselling to people of all ages and identities experiencing a broad range of issues.
• Conduct assessment, planning counselling and progress evaluation with victim/survivors of family violence using feminist, and trauma lenses, in a manner that is equitable, empowering, and culturally relevant.
• Determine clients’ needs and develop appropriate intervention plans.
• Offer crisis intervention and support to clients in emergency situations.
• Collaborate with other professionals, agencies, and community resources to ensure comprehensive care for clients.
• Maintain accurate and confidential client records in accordance with organisational policies and legal requirements.
• Stay informed about developments in the field of family violence and trauma-informed care.
• Participate in regular team meetings and professional development opportunities.

What you will bring to the team

• Tertiary qualification in Counselling, Social Work, or Family Therapy
• Eligibility for registration with PACFA, AASW, APS, or AAFT
• Proven experience in providing family violence counselling services, preferably from a feminist perspective.
• Knowledge of trauma-informed care and a commitment to empowering survivors.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team and community partners.
• Sensitivity to cultural and individual differences.
