Where you’ll be working

What you’ll be doing

The Alternate Care Clinic (ACC) is a specialist community mental health team located at Redbank House. The ACC aims to provide a comprehensive and highly specialised mental health service to children and young people in out-of-home care (OOHC) with high and complex needs. Clients comprise of children and young people 0-18 years with extreme trauma histories, attachment difficulties and highly challenging presentations.
 
The Clinical Psychologist employed by ACC is part of a multi-disciplinary team, which offers a broad, systemic intervention to this population. This involves direct psychiatric and therapeutic interventions with the child / young person and their carers, the co-ordination and support of services ‘around’ the client and the education / training and support of key stakeholders in the out-of-home care system. Often taking on the role of “complex case consultant”, the clinical psychologist is thus required to possess specialised knowledge in areas such as trauma, attachment and systemic intervention, and the capacity to intervene at a number of different levels in the client’s life.

Essential Criteria

Qualification:  Accredited post-graduate Masters or Doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology

Registration: Full registration as a Psychologist with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

Selection Criteria

  1. Extensive experience in working therapeutically with children and young people with significant behavioural, emotional, mental health and/or psychosocial difficulties.
  2. Clinical experience working with children or adolescents in out-of-home-care and/or the child protection system.
  3. Specialised knowledge in areas such as trauma, attachment and systemic interventions including experience in providing family therapy and an awareness of evidenced based therapies such as TF-CBT, DBT, EMDR.
  4. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team and with other service providers to achieve optimal outcomes for children, young people and their families.
  5. Demonstrated capacity to provide consultation, supervision and training to other professionals including more junior health professionals and students.
  6. Current valid NSW drivers licence and willingness to use it for work purposes.
