Position:  Senior DFV Specialist Coach

FTE 0.6

Temporary role for 18 months with the possibility of extension.

Level 4.1 Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 (SCHCDS)

Formal Qualifications – Behavioural Science | Health 

Warringu ATSIC was established in January 1984 as a specialist domestic and family violence service to assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women and children. 100% of our directors and membership are Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. 

Warringu operates a shelter for women and children escaping DFV situations and have recently embarked on a journey to expand our services to ensure our clients receive the best level of care, have access to the required support services, are provided with assistance to build strong and healthy relationships and education to look after themselves and their families to break unhealthy cycles to live a life free of violence. 

Warringu staff engage on a daily, face to face basis with women and children who have recently lived through a DFV experience. Our staff work with our clients to get them back on their feet by providing a safe place to recover from the trauma of DFV and begin the healing process. 

Role Description:

Work within a small team of staff in a domestic and family violence shelter delivering support to women and children escaping domestic and family violence.

This role requires leadership abilities and experience in working with First Nations Peoples within the community service sector.

A demonstrated knowledge of social issues that impact First Nations People is required as well as a working knowledge of effective intervention strategies in assisting and supporting Women and children who have experienced domestic and family violence.

The successful candidate will be a member of two small teams (shelter operations and a small management team).

Selection Criteria:

  1. Demonstrated leadership, management and supervision skills.
  2. Demonstrated experience in coaching and mentoring clients and staff.
  3. Demonstrated experience in Case Management.
  4. Thorough knowledge of relevant referral pathways for clients within the human and social service sector.
  5. Sound understanding and experience in current practice tools and frameworks applicable to this area of work.
