Wesley College Melbourne, a school of the Uniting Church, established in 1866, is one of Australia’s leading and most respected co-educational independent schools.  With an enrolment of 3,400 students from ECLC to Year 12, it comprises three metropolitan campuses in Melbourne, at St Kilda Road, Glen Waverley and Elsternwick, outdoor education sites at Chum Creek, Mallana, Lochend and a Year 9 residential campus at Clunes.

The College is seeking an experienced and passionate Student Psychologist for a part-time (0.60 FTE) position. This position is a leave replacement position for Term 2, 2024 and is based at our Glen Waverley campus.

In making this appointment, the College is seeking applicants who, among other qualities, can demonstrate:

  • Qualifications and current registration as a psychologist with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA): Current registration with AHPRA as a psychologist and the ability to demonstrate adherence to the APS ethical guidelines and to work within a climate of confidentiality. We will also consider highly skilled and experienced bilingual counsellors with a proven track record of working with children, adolescents, and their families in a school context.
  • Bilingual Ability in Chinese (Mandarin) and English is Essential: Experience in providing bilingual 1:1 counselling to students with diverse personal, social, emotional, and neurodiverse needs is a critical requirement for this role. The ability to communicate fluently in both languages (written and oral) is key to building rapport with the students and their families and to understanding and addressing their concerns accurately.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in service delivery, as students may have varying needs and preferences.
  • Experience in group programs design and delivery: Proven experience in the design, implementation, and provision of wellbeing programs and support activities for international and ESL students to foster their academic success, emotional well-being, and cultural adaptation.
  • Cultural Knowledge and Competency in Working with International Students: This role involves understanding and addressing the unique challenges that international and ESL students encounter in secondary school, such as language barriers, cultural adjustment, academic rigor, and social isolation. Cultural awareness, sensitivity, and a deep understanding of the cultural nuances relevant to international students’ well-being are vital.
  • Demonstrated highly developed interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team and other support services within the school.
