About the Role

The purpose of the Family Support Practitioner – Family Intervention Services (FIS) is to develop and implement Action Plans for families subject to child protection interventions. This role involves working with children, young people, and their parents or caregivers to promote positive outcomes, with a focus on preservation and reunification.

This is a full-time, 12 month max term contract position is based out of our Milton office.  This hybrid role will be a combination of working from the office and working from home.

Key Responsibilities  

  • Developing and maintaining supportive relationships with children, young people, and their parents/caregivers.
  • Supporting the development of skills in children, young people, and parents to achieve safety and stability goals.
  • Facilitating group work with clients including parenting programs and victims and perpetrators of domestic violence
  • Liaising with stakeholders and participating in meetings to ensure effective collaboration.
  • Conducting assessments, creating action plans, and coordinating review meetings to promote positive outcomes.
  • Adhering to organizational policies, recording client information, and reporting incidents.
  • Upholding the organization’s values and promoting a safe, abuse-free environment.
  • Supporting the mission of the organization and complying with relevant legislation and requirements.

Skills & Experience

  • Degree in Social Work, Social Science, Psychology, or Human Services.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities for relationship-building.
  • Deep empathy and understanding of children, young people, and families.
  • Knowledge of domestic violence and family violence frameworks (Safe and Together knowledge highly regarded).
  • Counselling and conflict resolution proficiency.
  • Skilled in assessment, planning, and case management.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and record-keeping.
  • Prior experience in child and family support, counselling, or social work.
  • Proven history of working with individuals with experiences of trauma.

Successful candidates will be required to clear probity checks including National Criminal History Record Check and Working with Children Check (where relevant to the role).
