Permanent, part-time position (60.8 hours fortnightly) based in Hobart CBD

About the Role:
The Practitioner – Health & Wellbeing (Way Back Program) is responsible for providing non-clinical care and practical psychosocial support to individuals in the first three months following a suicide attempt or suicidal crisis.
The Way Back is a non-clinical support service focused on providing practical psychosocial support to people experiencing a suicidal crisis or who have attempted suicide.
Support is provided for up to three months and targets those at the highest risk through referrals following hospital presentations or through specialist mental health services.

The successful applicant will possess demonstrable competency, knowledge, understanding and/or skills in the following areas:

  • An understanding of the processes people utilise to overcome adversity/distress arising from
  • life challenges.
  • Demonstrated case management skills and ability to work effectively with clients, family
  • members and service providers to identify solutions.
  • An ability to recognise and understand people’s intrinsic resourcefulness.
  • Sound understanding of the personal, family, and social issues associated with suicidal ideation and attempts, including awareness of groups identified to be at increased risk of suicide.
  • Good understanding of recovery principles and/or strengths-based principles.
  • Provide support in a manner consistent with Anglicare’s values and practice principles.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly with individuals and their families/carers who may be experiencing significant distress.
  • High level of competency using technology to coordinate client care, to collaborate with other providers and report outcomes.
  • Experience liaising with external service providers including specialist mental health services, GPs and other community-based services and organisations.
  • Demonstrate high level of communication and interpersonal skills with people who access our services, colleagues, other service providers and stakeholders.
  • Certificate or degree qualification applicable to the delivery of non-clinical psychosocial support services

To be considered for the position, applicants are asked to show:

  • Knowledge of, and experience working with local mental health and social services sectors.
  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience working with people with mental health issues.
  • Demonstrated interest and/or experience working with cultural and community groups known to be at a higher risk of suicide (e.g. males, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people).

The successful applicant will be required to:

  • provide a current Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable People Registration (employment/volunteer category) including NDIS Worker Screening Check if you are applying for the 1st time or have renewed your registration since 1st February 2021;
  • present an unsupervised contact with children or vulnerable people type National Police Check (no older than 12 months);
  • provide an International Police Check if you have resided for 12 months or more outside of Australia after the age of 16;
  • provide a satisfactory Anglicare assessed medical:
  • provide evidence of your COVID-19 Digital Certificates (including booster) or a vaccination exemption;
  • provide a current provisional or full Australian Driver Licence.

On commencement the successful applicant will be required to undertake our structured Safeguarding Children Training program.
