Act for Kids is a prominent provider of prevention, professional therapy and support services for children who have suffered abuse and support for families at risk. With over 25 centres nationally, we have supported thousands of children and their families for more than 30 years. In 2021 – 2022 we provided services to 39,002 people, including over 23,000 children.

About the position…

We are seeking a part time (0.8FTE) Family Support Practitioner to join our friendly team in Maryborough until 31 December 2027 with possibility for extension (subject to the continued government funding of the program).

This job is about delivering an outreach model of case management to children, young people, caregivers, and families with the aim of facilitating social learning, community connectedness, good health, and well-being.

Key responsibilities:

  • Maintain a regular case load of client families and regularly attend and participate in case reviews.
  • Engage families, obtain consent, and collaborate to develop case plans addressing unmet needs and child protection concerns.
  • Working collaboratively with other professionals and agencies utilising an ecological model to achieve families’ goals.
  • Provide timely, quality reports to management and maintain accurate, up-to-date data entry records in required databases.

About you…

  • Tertiary degree in a relevant discipline (Social Work, Human Services, Allied Health).
  • Professional registration (if required) and membership of a relevant professional association (desirable).
  • At least 2 years’ experience providing case-management and therapeutic services to families, caregivers, young people and children in a child protection framework.
  • Cultural awareness and an understanding of how to communicate and work effectively with families from different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Well-developed communication, teamwork, problem solving and interpersonal skills.
  • An understanding of current child protection legislation and policy reforms.

About the pay…

  • Position is classified Level 4 under the SCHCADS award.
  • Salary range is $82,046 – $88,288 plus superannuation.

Other requirements…

  • Eligibility for a positive Working with Children Check in the applicable state of employment in Australia or exemption based on professional qualifications and registration.
  • Current driver’s licence.

  • Fully vaccinated with the prescribed doses of an approved vaccine against COVID-19 or have an approved medical exemption.
