DFSV Lived Experience Coordinator Illawarra Women’s Health Centre

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Illawarra Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre (the Centre) is an Australian first initiative delivering long-term holistic support to women recovering from the trauma of domestic, family, and sexual violence (DFSV). An initiative of the Illawarra Women’s Health Centre, the Women’s Trauma Recovery Centre, has been fully funded by the Commonwealth Government for an initial period of five years with the expectation that the outcomes will demonstrate the therapeutic benefit and cost-effectiveness of the new model of care.

About the Role

The Lived Experience Coordinator (LE Coordinator) is a professional role and requires a tertiary qualification in areas such as social services, community development, or DFSV counselling. These qualifications are important to enable the LE Coordinator to apply trauma informed boundaries when empathetically supporting lived experience participants.

The LE Coordinator position is to bridge the gap between the needs of people with lived experience of DFSV and The Centre’s program offering and service delivery.

The focus of the role will be to support the implementation of The Centre’s Lived Experience Framework, including but not limited to the recruitment and provision of support to the members of lived experience co-design groups (project specific, panel and network, and ad hoc requests).

Role responsibilities include

  • Developing and implementing trauma and violence informed policies and processes to embed lived experience, including following best practice such as Experts by Expertise framework, into The Centre service design and implementation.
  • Onboarding lived experience participants for co-design and the Lived Experience Network, and for ad hoc opportunities The Centre may provide.
  • Handling confidential information sensitively, and ensuring information management procedures are followed consistently.
  • Supervising administration staff as needed.
  • Managing the communications and administration processes of the Centre for working with people with lived experience.
  • Engaging in self-care practices and seeking support to manage the potential vicarious trauma and emotional weight that may arise from working closely with people experiencing DFSV and the impact of trauma.

If you are an appropriately qualified DFSV advocate with Lived Experience who is interested in supporting and building others up who is interested in a part-time position working 30.4 hours a week and willing to work within a feminist practice framework, we would love to hear from you. For more information, please contact Katy Blackley (HR Consultant) at [email protected]
