JOB DESCRIPTION

Centacare Family Services offers relationship and community services to individuals, couples, and families. As a Catholic agency we provide professional assistance in a manner which promotes human dignity and enhances growth and wellbeing.

Centacare Family Services are currently seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified and experienced Aboriginal Community Advocates to join our Geraldton based team.

A remuneration package based on the SCHCADS Award 2010 for this position is level 3.1 of $36.00 per hour, plus superannuation and salary sacrifice options.

This is a flexible role offering either Part-time or Fulltime hours which will be negotiated with the succesful applicant.

Key Functions

  • Support Centacare Family Services to provide effective services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families.
  • Through consultation with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and organisations, identify, establish, and evaluate culturally appropriate and specific service models for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and children. 
  • Promote Centacare Family Services within the Midwest and Gascoyne Communities.

Qualifications – Desirable 

Tertiary qualification and/or experience in the community services sector.

  • Aboriginality*
  • Demonstrated Community Development skills and experience, including culturally appropriate community consultation.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and evaluate programmes and services.
  • Highly developed communication skills, both written and verbal, for working with a broad-based network of service providers and a culturally diverse clientele.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the issues that impact on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • High level of skill in Microsoft Office, Penelope Client Management database and/or other similar computer packages.

Ability to work within the philosophy and ethos of Centacare. Successful applicants will hold, or be able to obtain if successful, a WA Working with Children Check, National Police Clearance no older than 12 months, and a current WA Driver’s License.
