About the role:
As a Learning Support & Student Welfare Advisor at AMA College, you will play a vital role in ensuring the well-being and success of our students. The role is diverse and impactful. By providing both educational and emotional support to our students, you’ll contribute to their success and well-being throughout their educational journey at AMA College.
Duties/responsibilities:
- Provide personal support and assistance to students with disabilities, mental health conditions, and medical conditions within the learning environment, ensuring compliance with Work Health and Safety requirements, college policies, and nursing requirements.
- Identify and implement effective working practices with students, including information clarification, task practice, access to adaptive technology, and learning resources as needed.
- Develop student Learning Support plans in consultation with Nursing Lecturers.
- Maintain comprehensive student records, including notes on learning support provided.
- Collaborate with other college staff to support the learning needs of individual students with disabilities.
- Act as a point of contact for non-academic student well-being issues, particularly those at risk of disengagement.
- Learn about and advise students on various specialist support services.
- Collaborate with nursing Support officer and College Academic staff to develop and implement programs and interventions that foster resilience, improve attendance, and address social, emotional, and educational needs.
- Provide leadership in identifying and analysing emerging student well-being issues and coordinate appropriate interventions.
- Maintain records of welfare meetings and adhere to AMA College policies for students under the age of 18.
- Work with the Head of Discipline to ensure student welfare.
- Provide support to students experiencing social or emotional issues.
- Maintain staff and student notice boards on well-being topics.
- Plan and present college tutorials on universal welfare topics each semester.
- Perform other duties as directed by the Head of Discipline or Nursing Support Advisor.
Essential to the role:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to work sensitively, inclusively, and professionally.
- Understanding of the needs of students with disabilities and how to empower them in a vocational education environment.
- Strong numeracy and literacy skills, emotional intelligence, time management, Microsoft Office proficiency, personal organization, and task planning.
- Ability to stay up-to-date on adaptive and assistive technology, relevant software, and equipment.
- Effective teamwork and adherence to government and organizational policies and procedures.
- Relevant post-secondary qualification in mental health, disability, or community services, and/or experience in a similar role.
- Experience working with diverse clients, including people with disabilities and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.
- Working with Children Check (WWC).
- National Police Clearance (NPC).
