Eldercare is seeking a self-motivated Spiritual Care Practitioner to join our team. This position offers an exciting opportunity to be a part of a new professional model of spiritual care that is inclusive, person-centred, and integrated across the whole organisation. This role is all about people and what gives them connection, meaning and purpose.

The Spiritual Care Practitioner provides quality spiritual care across the Eldercare sites to residents and families who are seeking spiritual support and growth. The Spiritual Care Practitioner’s role is an expression of the philosophy of holistic care, recognising that an integrated spiritual care approach is a vital part of resident well-being.

The Spiritual Care Practitioner will lead the implementation of Eldercare’s new Spiritual Care Approach.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Bachelor’ degree or undertaking postgraduate level studies in Theology, Counselling, Social Sciences or equivalent at a tertiary level.
  • Clinical Pastoral Education or the equivalent (according to current industry standards) i.e., meeting Level 2 (or Level 3 for a Senior Practitioner) of the Spiritual Health Association Spiritual Care Capability Framework for Spiritual Care Practitioners in Health (2020)
  • Certified Member level of Spiritual Care Australian preferred: eligibility essential
  • Awareness and understanding of diverse cultures, beliefs, practices and traditions.
  • Capability in leading public and informal rituals and services
  • Driver’s License and a willingness to travel to various Eldercare Sites
  • Knowledge of the process of ageing and dementia awareness
  • Understanding of issues and spiritual needs surrounding grief and loss
  • A thorough understanding of the spiritual needs of pastoral care components of palliative care

To work for Eldercare, you are required to have a police clearance valid for working in aged care (unsupervised contact with vulnerable people) and the clearance needs to be less than 12 months from date of issue.

  • Be vaccinated against seasonal influenza by no later than 1 June each year.
  • Be vaccinated against COVID-19 as per current ATAGI guidelines.
