About us

Australian Counselling Association (ACA) is Australia’s largest single registration body for Counsellors and Psychotherapists with over 14,000 members.

ACA serves a crucial role in advocating and advancing the profession of counselling and psychotherapy. We develop codes of ethical practice, training standards, and accredit education courses, and drive public awareness campaigns. ACA supports and strengthens our community of counsellors and psychotherapists – our member services include education, employment, practice development, and advocacy.

Position purpose

As our Student Engagement Officer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the counselling and psychotherapy student experience, fostering a sense of belonging, and bridging the gap between students and their future professional self.

Key Responsibilities:

• Engage with students to understand their needs and aspirations.
• Cultivate and grow student membership through creative initiatives.
• Deliver dynamic presentations to large groups that captivate and inspire.
• Serve as the catalyst for building strong connections within the student body.
• Take ownership of the student pathway, creating meaningful experiences.

To be considered for this role, you will need to demonstrate:

• Natural people-person with a passion for inspiring and nurturing others
• Previous experience engaging with higher education and vocational service providers 
• Good knowledge of marketing, business development and sales essentials
• Excellent communication skills

Essential 

• Proven ability to manage and motivate teams/build strong community culture through good people leadership, and clear communication
• Sales, marketing, or business development experience
• Experience in designing and producing audio-visual content, and distributing marketing materials
• Understanding of higher education, vocational education stakeholders, course 
• Understanding of academic expectations and the difficulties faced by students undertaking tertiary allied health studies, including the unique challenges faced international students, and in placements
• Culturally sensitive, and a patient approach to student and customer needs

Desired

• Experience as a counsellor or guidance officer highly regarded
• Business, allied health or counselling qualification
