Role:  Integrated Alcohol and Other Drug & Mental Health Clinician

Status:  Part time-full time, multiple positions

Ballarat Community Health are seeking a passionate and dedicated Integrated Alcohol and Other Drug & Mental Health Clinician who’s eager to make a difference and contribute to our growing team.

Working as part of a dynamic multidisciplinary and multiagency team, you will deliver improved mental health (MH) and alcohol and other drugs (AOD) services. This role is vital in providing clinical services including intake, assessment, treatment planning, therapeutic intervention, treatment coordination, care planning, case management, group work, and discharge planning to ensure clients to improved mental health and decreased harm from alcohol or other drugs.

Why this work is important:

Step Thru Care is an initiative of the Commonwealth Government, coordinated and funded via the WestVicPHN. The Program will work across the Central Goldfields area, in collaboration with Central Highlands Rural Healt, Maryborough and District Health Service and Ballarat Community Health.

The aim of the program is to address the needs of the consumer in a timely and straight forward manner, regardless of whether the primary area of concern is mental ill health or substance use. The program will provide services as and when needed, while incorporating warm referrals and collaborative care with other service providers. While Ballarat Community Health will be the lead agency, we will work closely with our partners to ensure clients are linked with the most suitable provider in their local area. The outcomes will include but not be limited to improved mental health and decreased harm from alcohol or other drugs.

What you will accomplish:

  • Ensure the achievement of quality care and outcomes for clients by coordinating client-focused treatment and services that are personalised, timely, and effective.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients with substance use and/or mental health issues.
  • Develop individualised treatment plans that address both substance use and/or mental health needs.
  • Provide evidence-based interventions and therapy to clients, both individually and in group settings.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals to ensure integrated care and coordination of services.
  • Monitor client progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary.
  • Educate clients and their families on addiction, mental health, and recovery.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records and documentation.
  • Stay current with developments in the fields of AOD and mental health treatment.
  • Handle every case with patience, understanding, and a desire to help the client achieve wellness and autonomy.


What you will bring to the team:

  • Tertiary degree qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health, Alcohol and other Drugs, Nursing, or other health related field and hold current registration with AHPRA, AASW and /or Mental Health accreditation.
  • Expertise in working with clients with mental health issues, AOD issues, complex needs and interacting with families and carers is desirable.
  • Capability to implement therapeutic, recovery-oriented frameworks and practices including risk mitigation, trauma informed care and family inclusive practice.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Superb critical-thinking, organisational, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work with all age groups and populations.
