Counsellor – Cairns Adult Service 

Location: Cairns 

Permanent part-time

The Opportunity:

As a Counsellor at True’s Cairns Sexual Assault Service, you’ll play a vital role in delivering high-quality services to our clients. You’ll provide confidential trauma-informed counselling and psychoeducation to adults and young people who have experienced sexual abuse and/or sexual assault.  Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Offer trauma-informed counselling and psychoeducation in various settings, including in-office, virtual platforms, community spaces, and face-to-face, tailoring your approach to the specific needs of each individual.
  • Provide information, support and advocacy to clients engaged with external services, and refer to appropriate services as required.
  • Participate in networking and delivery of community education  

Skills We’re Looking For (Selection criteria):

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in social work, psychology, or behavioural sciences.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in counselling young people and adults who have experienced trauma.
  • Knowledge of working within or in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, organizations, and people.
  • Possession of a positive ‘Working with Children Check’ Blue card.
  • A proven ability to understand appropriate legislation, best practice guidelines, and policies and procedures related to sexual assault.
