your opportunity

Based at a confidential location in Western Sydney, this role works collaboratively to undertake assessments and provide support to mothers and their children accommodated at our Domestic and Family Violence Transitional Housing service. You will support the children’s development and support parents to improve their skills in parenting and developing their children.

Our Transitional Housing program helps ensure families are provided safe housing and case management support to safely transition from refuge to independent housing.

Your role will include:

• work collaboratively with team members to develop family case plans and interventions
• ensure support prioritises the safety and wellbeing of children
• work with the parent to build their understanding and capacity to improve their child’s safety and wellbeing and build positive, secure attachments with their children
• develop and deliver activities that support children to be physically and emotionally safe, learn new skills and to grow in confidence
• provide one on one or group workshops in parenting education, coaching and support
• provide practical support, driving and transport duties as required

This is a permanent part time position, working 3 days per week.

what we are looking for

You will be flexible and adaptable and work with a whole of family approach to achieve best practice outcomes for woman and families.

You will bring:
• passion, commitment and belief in families
• minimum Certificate IV qualifications in a relevant area of expertise and at least 3 years direct experience in family services
• demonstrated knowledge and skills in working with women and children who have experienced domestic/family violence
• possess a thorough understanding of trauma within the context of DV, specifically in relation to the effect that trauma has on child development and parent/child interactions
• demonstrated knowledge of effective parenting techniques, attachment theory and child development stages
• demonstrated understanding of child protection and assessing and managing risk
• working knowledge of legislation specific to domestic violence and child protection
