Role Overview:

This is an exciting opportunity to join UnitingSA’s team as the Family and Relationships Counsellor assists individuals, couples and families to navigate problems and challenges within relationships at all stages (including marriage, separation and divorce), parenting and the care of children, particularly to men. The aim of the role is to help families improve and better manage their relationships, raise awareness of family relationships issues, develop their parenting skills and increase their conflict management skills. Services include counselling, relationship education and group work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide broad-based counselling and support to individuals, parents, and couples experiencing family relationship difficulties including;
    • Assessment, client counselling, goal setting, information, planning, and referral;
    • Ensuring the wellbeing and safety of children
  • Facilitate education and skills-based programs that support the needs of the client group
  • Work to improve the wellbeing of families’ accessing the service
  • Implement services that are culturally appropriate and safe
  • Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure service provision meets funding and reporting requirements

Skills & Experience:

  • Experience working in community service settings, in particular working with men and their families
  • Experience delivering therapeutic group work and parenting education programs
  • Experience working collaboratively with stakeholders including families, schools, service providers and community organisations
  • Tertiary qualifications in counselling, psychology, family therapy or other related fields, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Child Safe Environments for Children and Young People Training – Through their Eyes Certificate
