Student Support Officer (Wellbeing) Hunter Trade College

Commencing Term 1, 2024. Permanent part-time role!
3 days per week during school term weeks. 

Are you passionate about supporting young people to achieve their full potential? Do you have experience working with young people in various settings? If so, you might be the perfect candidate for the Student Support Officer/Youth Worker role at Hunter Trade College.

Based in the Hunter Valley NSW, Hunter Trade College is an award-winning senior school providing students with the opportunity to complete their HSC and commence trade training in electrotechnology, construction, automotive and metals engineering.

As a Student Support Officer/Youth Worker, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing one-on-one and group mentoring, coaching, and guidance to students who are facing academic, social challenges or other personal barriers impacting their capacity for learning
  • Developing and delivering or sourcing engaging and relevant programs and activities that promote student well-being, resilience, and participation
  • Collaborating with teachers, parents, and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for students
  • Fostering a positive and inclusive school culture that celebrates diversity and respects individual differences

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A qualification in youth work, social work, counselling, or a related field
  • A current Working with Children Check and National Police Check
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • A genuine interest in, understanding of, and empathy for young people and their needs
  • A flexible and adaptable approach to working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment
