Cardijn College Marcellin at Christie Downs provides a wide variety of vocational education and training opportunities for students in Years 10–12 and beyond, with relationships that extend well into their careers across a range of industry partnerships. Cardijn College Galilee at Aldinga offers Reception to Year 9 in a context where every student experiences a unique sense of belonging in a caring and ecologically aware environment.

 

Position Summary          

The Social Worker / Counsellor, as a qualified professional, works with school leaders, staff, parents/caregivers, students and external agencies to support the wellbeing of students and provide counselling to students. The Social Worker / Counsellor forms a vital part of the support services available to students and staff across the College and works in partnership with other College counsellors, social workers and members of the wellbeing team, specifically the Student Support Services Manager.

 

This role has a particular focus on working with Young People in Care, the Department for Child Protection and the associated allied health professionals in the support team around the child. The Social Worker / Counsellor also works with students that are not associated with the Department for Child Protection.

 

Essential Selection Criteria

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or Certification (or higher) in either Social Work or Counselling.
  • Active support for the Catholic ethos and the College Mission and Values.
  • Significant and demonstrated experience working with youth and in the management of student behavioural and wellbeing issues.
  • A demonstrated knowledge of Child Protection policies and procedures.
  • A demonstrated knowledge of support agencies and the capacity to engage them as required.
  • The capacity to support other staff in matters relating to student wellbeing.
  • The capacity to deliver educational programs to groups of students.
  • A high degree of organisational and planning skills with an ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • An ability to be resourceful, flexible and self-motivated to work independently.
  • The ability to quality control their own product to a very high standard.
  • The ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality in relation to staff, students and families at the College.

 

Specific Requirements

  • Acquire and maintain:
    • CESA Staff do not need to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment, with the exception of CESA Staff working in High-Risk Settings. CESA Staff are however strongly encouraged to have and maintain an Up-To-Date Vaccination Status in accordance with the ATAGI statement. The vaccination requirement for CESA Staff working in High-Risk Settings is a condition of employment or engagement unless an exemption is approved in accordance with the CESA COVID-19 Vaccination Policy.
    • Working With Children Check and Catholic Police Clearance to work in Catholic Education SA.
    • Current valid Responding to Risks of Harm, Abuse and Neglect – Education and Care certificate.
    • Approved Mandatory Notification training.
    • Applicable First Aid Certificate relevant to the role requirements.

 

Employment Conditions and Benefits:

Cardijn College provides a supportive, inclusive and stimulating work environment, with access to outstanding facilities and resources to enable academic excellence. The employment terms and conditions are governed by the South Australian Catholic Schools Enterprise Agreement 2020. Working hours are 37.5 hours per week for 40 weeks per year.
