JOB DESCRIPTION

Bidgerdii Community Health Service is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled primary health care service, operating in the Rockhampton and Central Queensland region for more than twenty-five years. The organisation is a bulk billing community-controlled health service.

Bidgerdii Community Health Service is seeking a proactive, energetic and professional Social Emotional and Well-being (SEWB) Counsellor. 

The successful candidate will be responsible delivery of social and emotional well-being prevention, by providing counselling and education to mental health clients. These activities are to be carried out in accordance with Bidgerdii’s Action Plan and related polices and procedures.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Certificate IV or higher in the area of counselling, psychology, social work, mental health or related areas.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the history and effects, of the forcible removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and a comprehensive understanding of contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to communicate effectively, with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of social, emotional and mental health issues. Including culturally appropriate healing methods, trauma and grief counselling skills.
  • Ability to work independently, as an effective team member and a willingness to refer clients to other services, when necessary.
  • Competent computer skills, especially using word-processing and database software.
  • Willingness to abide by organisational policies and procedures.

 

Additional Essential Factors:

  • Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD) – essential
  • Immunisation requirements – It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases: measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, hepatitis B, hepatitis A and pertussis (whooping cough) during their employment
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certificate
  • In line with the legislation changes (no card, no start policy) all successful candidates must hold a current Blue Card (working with children and young people check) prior to commencement.
  • Satisfactory Police Check.
