This is a permanent full-time (35 hours week), opportunity where you will be based in our Carer Engagement and Support team in Oatlands (North Parramatta)

About Uniting’s Permanency Support Program

  • The Permanency Support Program (PSP) aims to give every child/young person a loving home, whether that be with parents, family, extended family or through guardianship, adoption or quality long-term care
  • We provide culturally supported placement options for children and young people 0-18 years of age
  • PSP also provides a ‘light touch’ Aftercare service for young people 18-25 years who have left foster care and for the next 4 years will collaborate with Uniting’s Extended Care Pilot program team to provide holistic support to young people using the Advantage Thinking approach

About the opportunity

This position is all about engaging with potential Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal foster carers and supporting existing foster carers. It is a busy role which will see the successful applicant conducting carer reviews, delivering tailored education to carers, and helping potential carers to negotiate the compliance requirements to become authorised.

There will be a focus on reassessing current carers to verify their competency and prepare them to transition into the Goodradigee PSP program

About You

  • This is an identified position for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People All applicants must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander decent. Aboriginality is a genuine qualification authorised under Section 14(d) of the Anti-Discrimination ACT 1977
  • Provide evidence of Aboriginal identity, and be able to demonstrate ability to work effectively with Aboriginal peoples and communities
  • Relevant qualification in Community Services, Social Work or a related field
  • Knowledge of the current transition of children and carers into Aboriginal Controlled Community Organisations (desirable)
  • Experience facilitating groups or individual training (Eg: PPP, Circle of Security, Bringing up Great Kids, Tuning into Teens).
  • Able to meet with carers in their home and online to deliver engaging education and training using videos, podcasts and activities individually or in groups
  • Willing to travel to meet prospective carer applicants and engage them in the exciting process of becoming a foster carer
  • Manage heavy work demands and deadlines.
  • The ability to do all this, applying administrative-style precision, order, documentation, attention to detail and time management
