The Position

The role of a Behaviour Support Practitioner will support appropriate behaviour management strategies and high-level performance and case management techniques to assist in the achievement of STEPS’ overall business objectives.

The Behaviour Support Practitioner will deliver individualised strategies for people with a disability, primarily those with an approved NDIS plan to reduce the impact of behaviours of concern and minimise the use of restrictive practices.

As a Behaviour Support Practitioner your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop, oversee and ensure behaviour support plans meet both clinical and NDIS requirements
  • Plan and deliver behaviour support approaches that comply with the NDIS Quality and Safeguarding Framework
  • Lodge behaviour support plans that comply with restrictive practice rules
  • Implement positive behaviour support plans with individuals, support staff and families across a range of environments
  • Provide technical behaviour management and disability support advice, guidance and coaching to assist supervisors and employees to trouble shoot program and client barriers and risks

The Successful Applicant

To be considered for this opportunity you must meet the following criteria:

  • Ideally hold a Tertiary qualification in Psychology, Occupational Therapy, Social Work or similar discipline
  • Hold an NDIS Suitability Assessment
  • Mandatory to be Assessed under the Positive Behaviour Support Capability Framework and completion of or ability to complete the Positive Behaviour Support Writing course (have received a suitable outcome letter from the NDIS Commission as approved as a Behaviour Support Practitioner). NDIS behaviour support practitioner means a person the Commissioner considers is suitable to undertake behaviour support assessments (including functional behavioural assessments) and to develop behaviour support plans that may contain the use of restrictive practices.
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge of Positive Behaviour Support planning in complex environments and have successfully completed, ‘Writing Positive Behaviour Support Plans’ training, within the past 2 years
  • Demonstrated detailed knowledge and expertise to deliver a broad range of behaviour management strategies, highly developed case management framework, and ability to educate and train employees
  • Covid 19 vaccination mandatory

Applicants must also have the ability to complete a Police Check, hold a Blue and NDIS Worker Screening Clearance and have a current Driver’s Licence.
