About the role

We are currently seeking applications for the multiple permanent roles (37.5 – 30 hours per week) of Intensive Family Support (IFS) Case Worker within the Intensive Family Support Service (IFSS) located at our Townsville venue.  

IFS is funded by the Department of Child Safety, Seniors and Disability Services. The IFS program is targeted to families experiencing multiple and/or complex needs with children unborn to 18 years of age who may be at risk of entering of the statutory Child protection System.  The aim of this role is to provide intensive and extended, but time limited, in-home support to improve family functioning and safety for children by building the skills and capacity of parents/caregivers to a level that can be sustained by les intensive and more universally available services. 

IFS program specific

  • Implement a child centred and family focused case management intervention that directly supports the family’s capacity and willingness to keep children safe and cared for.
  • Directly implement case management strategies that directly relate to child protection concerns regarding parental responses to children’s needs.
  • Implement a case management approach to build strengths within families to ensure the protection and wellbeing needs of children are being met.
  • Conduct child and family assessments to determine strengths and needs of the family.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate action plans to address client needs.
  • Work collaboratively with service providers and networks to ensure families have access to services as required using local referral protocols and are working toward a shared case plan.
  • Appropriate use of brokerage funds to ensure families and children have access to specialist services that are not available within the local community or have significant wait lists.
  • Assist in research and evaluation regarding the effectiveness of the service.
  • Maintain confidentiality and duty of care, including identification and assessment of domestic and family violence, child safety, threat of harm to self or others, and other risk factors; and take appropriate steps as required by organisational policy and procedure.
  • Understand and meet legislative and funding requirements including collecting and recording statistical data in a timely and accurate manner.

About You

The successful applicant will possess

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and experience in the delivery of services to families who are considered to be vulnerable and at risk, as well as
  • Theoretical knowledge of family systems and strengths-based approaches.
  • Experience in managing caseloads and effective time management and knowledge and application of relevant legislation and regulations, with specific reference to child protection.
  • Specific training or experiencing in child counselling and group program delivery (FSS specific)
  • Demonstrated ability to manage caseloads and proven effective time management skills
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, and
  • The capacity to engage constructively with individuals of diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.

The salary being offered is circa $80,963.63 to $87,125.54 per annum (pro rata for part-time), to be negotiated depending upon qualifications and experience, plus superannuation. We also offer our employees
