The Opportunity

This role as the Therapeutic Children’s Practitioner, provides direct service to children, young people and their carer who are victim survivors of DFV. You will work independently and as part of a specialist team providing therapeutic group and individual counselling sessions for children/young people living in safe houses and in outreach accommodation.

The Therapeutic Children’s Practitioner works with the carer and the child/young person in the provision of DFV and trauma informed counselling for children and young people residing in the accommodation services and in outreach accommodation.

You will work in collaboration with the Manager DFV Specialist Services and the team to support the achievement of organisational goals and maintain a positive culture within DVSM.

Qualifications/Experience

• Bachelor degree Social Work/Psychology/Counselling/Psychotherapy (essential).

• Post Grad training in therapy for children and young people (desirable)

What you will bring to the role:

• Experience working in direct counselling and/or therapeutic service delivery with children and young people impacted by adverse childhood experience/trauma.

• Demonstrated knowledge of DFV service delivery and how DFV impacts children and young people as Victim Survivors in their own right.

• Strong understanding of parent child relationship and how DFV can impact this.

• Demonstrated knowledge of neurobiology of trauma and how this can impact outcomes for children and their parent.

• Demonstrated understanding of the impact of trauma on children’s development, attachment theory and parenting from a neuro-sequential and attachment framework.

• Demonstrated experience working with parents in supporting them to parent their children, including risk assessment and safety planning.
