Social Group Facilitator Spectrum Space

JOB DESCRIPTION

Spectrum Space is a community not-for-profit running social groups to connect Autistic children and adults with others, providing opportunities for social interaction, engagement and fun. You will be facilitating our social groups using a youth work approach, and incorporate the interests of the group members into the program to create a relaxed yet engaging and safe environment. We have openings for this role in Marangaroo, Fremantle and Secret Harbour. Please stipulate your location preference(s) in your application. Salary will vary depending on qualifications.

 

Responsibilities

  • Utilise a strength based approach focusing on special interests to create opportunities for people to come together to share interests and create friendships;
  • Collaborate with participants and their parents/carers and assess the needs of the individual participant;
  • Run activities including; community/environmental projects, centre-based activities, outdoor activities, excursions and incursions related to interests identified by the participants in the individual groups;
  • Mentor, coach and support individuals and encourage greater social inclusion;
  • With support, work in partnership with professionals from other organisations that support participants such as disability service providers, social care, health, education, and local authorities;
  • Attend and contribute to meetings concerning the participants in the group;
  • Attend regular training and development opportunities to gain up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding, health and safety and policy developments;
  • Manage group assistants;
  • Undertake administrative tasks, conduct intake interviews, maintain effective recording systems and respond to queries;
  • Comply with NDIS, other funders, and Spectrum Space quality system requirements and participant reporting requirements as needed.

  • Proactive with ideas to engage young people
  • Confidence in managing challenging behaviours
  • Excellent communication
  • Administration skills
  • Experience in managing assistants and volunteers
  • Willingness to work in the late afternoon/evening or Saturdays

 

Desirable criteria

  • Tertiary Qualification in Occupational Therapy, Psychology, Speech Pathology, Education, Social Work, Youth worker, disability, community services
  • Experience working alongside people with complex psychosocial/mental health
  • Drivers Licence & roadworthy car

 

Required pre-employment checks

  • Working with children check (or the willingness to apply for one)
  • NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (or the willingness to apply for one)
  • Senior First aid
