This role may particularly suit someone who has completed honours in Psychology and requires industry experience to apply to Masters programs.

About the Role

You will manage the caseloads of our psychologists, by prioritising clinicians with available hours, updating our notes on their willingness to treat different clinical presentations, and occasionally helping them reorganise their regular clients scheduling to get a sense of their available hours. 

Interpreting new client presentations submitted online by clients or their parents, or following up over the phone if that information is unclear. You will map their presentation of their situation onto a likely course of treatment and determine which of the clinicians are capable and available to help. 

You then help setup the first appointments and manage any issues prior to their first appointment. Over time, you will also start comparing predicted to actual treatment course and eventually the outcomes after treatment from client feedback.

A key component of the role is building relationships with our clinicians, curating their caseload, managing their clinical load to reduce burnout, responding to clients in a timely manner and helping us to continually innovate and develop how we work.

 

About You

You have completed a 4th year of psychology, social work (mental health) or nursing (mental health) degree or equivalent.

You have a demonstrated ability to:

  1. Manage independently – there are lots of competing demands, so ability to multi-task, prioritise and diligently circling back the pre-interruption task is key.
  2. Think – both fast and deeply. Either thinking quickly on your feet whilst maintaining composure on the phone through to retaining and reliably implementing detailed procedural sequences is incredibly important. If you can think in a design way, then we really want people who can help drive innovation as well.
  3. Listen, really listen… hear the unspoken and empathise genuinely.
  4. Speak and not speak – you’ll need a calming, genuine and unrushed tone, and trust is paramount, so you will need to be a vault as well.
  5. Laugh – it’s can be a serious job that our clinicians do and sometimes they just need a moment of lightness. We all do.

Experience working within a medical or legal setting where privacy is demanded would be highly regarded. 

It’s important to know

  • This role is based in our clinic in Crows Nest. Working from home is possible on occasion if needed at which time you will require a computer, great internet and access to a quiet and private space to work from. 
  • High technology proficiency: If learning new systems seems daunting or you often need to ask for help with technology then you’ll likely get swamped. This role is people centred so the technology has to be something you pick up quickly so you can focus on your client relationships.

Preferred Attributes / Experience

  • Working in a customer centred environment like sales or Lifeline volunteer counsellor role that requires both awareness as well as empathic attunement.
  • Working within a medical or legal setting where privacy is required
  • If you’re travelling, we wish you well, but we are only considering applicants that are likely to stay with us for at least two years.
